Doug Pousma
I am a retired physician whose life experiences include practicing medicine; marriage, divorce and remarriage; raising kids; individual counseling and men’s groups; starting and managing successful businesses, addiction recovery; military service; business school; corporate executive positions; coaching several sports; caring for the weak; and worldwide travel.
Due to my life struggles, I have consulted mentors and numerous addiction, relationship, and marriage counselors to better understand how the first 20 years of my life set the stage for some of my decisions, some regrettable; some heroic, but all stepping stones toward the life I now enjoy. I have raised kids and mentored or coached others’ kids’ in scouting and three sports. I have trained medical doctors and young US Air Force recruits, I have sponsored dozens of broken men in 12-step recovery programs for 34 years, collaborated with graduate students in business school, and helped promote associates in several corporate executive positions. I have sold cars, flags and software. I have mixed mortar and concrete, dug holes, and started businesses. I have experienced fears, loss, and poverty, as well as confidence, achievement and wealth.
Call it “paying it forward”. I have benefitted from my life’s reflections and the guides along the way. Once a practicing doctor, I am now a wounded healer and life coach.
